Cold Air Plasma Properties
After plasma ignition, over 600 chemical reactions take place in air. We can design the plasma chemistry to produce the same reactive Oxygen and Nitrogen species as our innate immune system. The air plasma and its chemical products revert back to the original state (air) after a short time period. There are no residues, no waste disposal — cold plasma is 100% environmentally friendly.
Plasma efficiency and Plasma design: Ozone produced by CAP
Cold Atmospheric Plasma is the most effective bactericidal agent yet produced, being able to inactivate even resistant bacteria (e.g. MRSA) in seconds. It is faster, more encompassing, more benign to the skin and more powerful than most other agents in use. In addition, Cold Atmospheric Plasma is also very effective against fungi, viruses and spores.
Ozone is a toxic gas, which is always produced in plasma discharges. It can cause health problems if the dose is too high. The maximum allowed level for inhalation in an 8 hour working environment is 0.1 ppm. (Source: NIOSH). We can „design“ the plasma chemistry for high or low Ozone production whilst retaining maximum germicidal efficiency.
